Guatemala Hosts Student Convention and Competition Nearly 350 students from 20 Guatemalan universities met for the one-and- a-half day conference that included keynote presentations from local and international concrete experts—and a concrete football competition. Coordinated by ACI International Partner, Instituto Del Cemento Y Del Concreto De Guatemala and ACI Guatemala Chapter, the 6th National Congress of Civil Engineering and Architecture Students was held May 13-14, 2019, in Guatemala City, Guatemala. ACI sponsored the keynote given by Dr. Ramón Carrasquillo, FACI, through the ACI Ambassador Speaker program. This program promotes ACI technical expertise globally and creates, strengthens, and solidifies ACI relations with international organizations. Carrasquillo’s topics were “The Need to Make Way for Millennials in Engineering,” and “Are Engineers and Architects the Problem or the Solution?” Other expert speakers included: Eng. Estuardo Herrera Dr. Héctor Monzón Despang Eng. Luis Alvarez Valencia Eng. Gabriel Casasola Eng. José Antonio Rodas Eng. Estuardo Palencia Eng. Victor Flores Eng. Mauricio Dávila Eng. Amilcar Bances FOOTBALL Eighteen universities were presented with an Excellent or Outstanding ACI Award for University Student Activities, followed by a concrete football competition. The footballs were judged on the investigation and performance of the concrete material.
