Abstract:
This paper deals with instances where "accidental" air in concrete was found to be present in amounts far beyond those normally encountered in plain mixtures. The authors list a number of such cases which have come to their attention in recent years in the area in Canada covered by the Laurentian shield. In connection with one specific instance an outline is presented of the investigation of the problem and the measures adopted to control vagrant and final air content in the concrete mixtures on the work within reasonable and normally acceptable limits.
