Abstract:
In order to allow the operator of the FGC line in Barcelona to use 80 meter long convoys, it was necessary to expand the platforms of the Sant Gervasi Station. This project was executed without interrupting the operation of the line. The current tunnel was built during the 1920's and 1930's and was made of masonery and mass concrete. The final solution consisted on displacing the existing walls to the outer side of the tunnel in order to gain a width of 1.5 m. In one of the platforms the structural solution was to use a steel structure with micropiles foundation. In the other platform the existing wall was replaced by a new one. The construction of the new wall, which is located behind the existing one, requested the boring of a new microtunnel, wich was executed from a vertical well.
