Abstract:
This paper is derived from a presentation given to honor the memory of Dov Kaminetzky and his life-long commitment to the importance of diagnostic field and laboratory testing in investigation of structural failures and as a tool in their prevention. Presented in the paper is a summary review of the investigative testing approach, as well as various methods of nondestructive and invasive testing complemented by laboratory analyses. Nondestructive test methods, such as impact-echo, impulse response, ground-penetrating (impulse) radar, ultrasonic pulse velocity, load and bond testing, petrographic examination, and chemical analyses are shown as tools to evaluate conditions of various concrete structures throughout the United States and overseas.
