Specialty Commercial/Industrial Concrete Flatwork Finisher


Definition:
A Specialty Commercial/Industrial Concrete Flatwork Finisher is a person who has demonstrated a basic knowledge of finishing procedures for Specialty Commercial/Industrial Concrete Flatwork Finishing, and who has demonstrated skill in operating mechanized finishing equipment.

A Specialty Commercial/Industrial Concrete Flatwork Associate is a person who has demonstrated a basic knowledge of finishing procedures for Specialty Commercial/Industrial Concrete Flatwork Finishing, but who lacks sufficient work experience and verified skills needed to qualify as a Specialty Commercial/Industrial Concrete Flatwork Finisher.

Scope and Knowledge:
The JTA is a detailed list of specific points of knowledge and/or skills that may be included in the examinations for this ACI Certification program. ACI urges candidates to use the JTA to prepare for the certification exams.

JTA for ACI Certification of Specialty Commercial/Industrial Concrete Flatwork Finisher and Associate

The program requires knowledge of the following resource materials:

  • ACI 302.1R—Guide for Concrete Floor and Slab Construction
  • Silica Fume User’s Manual, Silica Fume Association


Certification Requirements:
For Specialty Commercial/Industrial Concrete Flatwork Finisher:
ACI will grant certification only to those applicants who:

  1. Have prior or current certification as an ACI Advanced Concrete Flatwork Finisher, and
  2. Have current certification as an ACI Specialty Commercial/Industrial Concrete Flatwork Associate, and
  3. Possess 2000 hours of approved work experience, and
  4. Successfully complete the ACI performance examination.

The work experience must be specific to commercial/industrial concrete flatwork finishing and is in addition to that submitted for the required ACI Advanced Concrete Flatwork Finisher certification program. Verification of the amount and type of work experience by the applicant's employer(s) is required. Optional forms and procedures are available for self-employed finishers. The two-hour written examination is closed-book and consists of approximately 80 multiple-choice questions. The passing grade for the written examination is 70%. During the performance examination each examinee must demonstrate skill in operating mechanized finishing equipment (i.e., riding trowel).

Certification is valid for a period of five years from the date of successfully completing all requirements,

Recertification requires successful completion of the certification requirements listed above.


For Specialty Commercial/Industrial Concrete Flatwork Associate:
ACI will grant Associate certification to those examinees who obtain a passing grade on the written examination.

Individuals with Associate certification can upgrade to full Specialty Commercial/Industrial Concrete Flatwork Finisher status upon meeting the requirement of certification as a full ACI Advanced Concrete Flatwork Finisher, submittal and approval of sufficient work experience, and successful completion of the ACI performance examination.

Recertification requires successful completion of the certification requirements listed above.
