Technical Questions

ACI Committees, Membership, and Staff have answered common questions on a variety of concrete related topics.

Do different admixtures of a given type always perform the same?

Q. Do different admixtures of a given type always perform the same?

A. Not always. Usually they perform similarly but to a different degree and sometimes with insufficient or unexpected results. The reason for this is the great variety in the composition of all the ingredients of concrete, particularly the cementitious material. This variability includes the admixtures, although great effort is made by producers to provide a product with little variation. Changes in the temperature and the possible incompatibility between the ingredients may affect the performance of admixtures.
