Technical Questions

ACI Committees, Membership, and Staff have answered common questions on a variety of concrete related topics.

Is personal protection needed when handling concrete?

Q. Is personal protection needed when handling concrete?

A. Yes. Alkalinity of freshly mixed concrete can cause serious injuries to the eyes and skin. Therefore, direct contact should be avoided. When contact occurs, skin areas should be washed promptly with water. If any cementitious material gets into the eyes, they should be flushed immediately and repeatedly with water. The person should get prompt medical attention.
