Q. How should the aggregates and other ingredients be measured to obtain uniformity in proportions? A. The aggregates should be measured by mass. Cementitious material, when shipped in bulk, should always be batched by mass; when shipped in bags, unbroken bags (each of the same net mass) can be used in lieu of batching by mass but fractional quantities should be measured by mass. Water and liquid admixtures can be measured by volume or by mass. In either case the equipment should permit ready adjustment and calibration. Mechanical devices adaptable to a wide range of requirements are obtainable for these different operations.
