Q. When water and aggregate are heated, are any limitations necessary? A. Water temperature should not be above 80°C (176°F) as a flash set might result on contact with the cement. No portion of the heated aggregate should be hot enough to cause such set. The temperature of the mixed concrete should be above 10°C (50°F). When water above 80°C (176°F) is used, it may be necessary to adjust the order in which ingredients are batched and mixed. It may be helpful to add the hot water and coarse aggregate ahead of the cement and to stop or slow down the addition of water while the cement and aggregate are batched (ACI 306R).
