The ACI Fall 2014 Convention, October 26-30, 2014, in Washington DC, USA, will feature a unique session – “Teaching with the New ACI 318-14 – A Session for Educators.” The session and panel discussion will be chaired by ACI Committee 318 Chair, Randall W. Poston, Ph.D., P.E., S.E. During this Hot Topic Session, five professor members of ACI Committee 318 Structural Concrete Building Code will provide recommendations for integrating the reorganized code into undergraduate and graduate classes. Additionally, several of these members who are authoring textbooks on reinforced concrete design will provide updates on their texts, and ACI staff will provide an overview and design examples from the ACI's forthcoming Reinforced Concrete Design Handbook, including several design examples based on ACI 318-14. Session attendees will learn how the completely reorganized ACI 318-14 Building Code Requirement for Structural Concrete will engage students with a straightforward and easy-to-navigate code that provides confidence when all design provisions have been met, and provide educators with recommendations and examples for integrating the reorganized code into undergraduate and graduate classes. Presentations and speakers include: Integrating Reorganized ACI 318-14 Into Reinforced Concrete Design Classes; Design of Concrete Structures Textbook – presented by Dr. Charles Dolan, University of Wyoming Integrating Reorganized ACI 318-14 Into Reinforced Concrete Design Classes – presented by Dr. Robert Frosch, Purdue University Integrating Reorganized ACI 318-14 Into Reinforced Concrete Design Classes; Reinforced Concrete Design Textbook – presented by Dr. Gustavo Parra-Montesinos, University of Wisconsin-Madison Integrating Reorganized ACI 318-14 Into Reinforced Concrete Design Classes; Reinforced Concrete Design and Mechanics Textbook – presented by Dr. James Wight, University of Michigan New ACI Reinforced Concrete Design Handbook – presented by Dr. Khaled Nahlawi, American Concrete Institute The Hot Topic Session will take place on Sunday, October 26, 2014, from 8:00 pm – 10.00 pm.
