Designed to meet the needs of users in the modern design and construction environment, The American Concrete Institute is pleased to offer ACI 318-14 “Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete.” This code is completely reorganized for greater ease of use—with more tables and charts, a consistent structure for each member chapter, a dedicated chapter on construction requirements, new chapters on structural systems and diaphragms, and a format that more easily accommodates new topics well into the future. Chapters and sections parallel the design process, and the reorganization principle arranges it from the structural engineer’s perspective. The code’s structure follows a hierarchy of methods, with simplest followed by more complex alternatives, and a logical flow of chapters so that users find the information they need more quickly and more comprehensively. The new code not only encourages better structural concrete design but also supports better communication among designers, engineers, contractors, and construction professionals. The code is much easier for students and new engineers to learn and apply. 318-14 is available in digital format plus the traditional printed copy, and will also appear in Spanish, Chinese, and other languages. The 2015 International Building Code will reference 318-14. To assist users of the Code, transition keys are available to locate movement of provisions between ACI 318-11 and ACI 318-14. Additionally, seminars, webinars, and ACI’s new Reinforced Concrete Design Manual (an invaluable companion to ACI 318-14 that contains design examples of various reinforced concrete members based on the fictitious seven-story building. Additional information and examples are provided to illustrate various ACI 318-14 requirements not related to the design of the members in the seven story building) will be available beginning in 2015. The new 318-14 code can be ordered or downloaded at www.concrete.org. Learn more at www.concrete.org/aci318. View the video here.
