American Concrete Institute leaders encouraged the concrete industry to lead the way in construction business diversity at a recent forum. Speakers at 2015 Women in Concrete Forum: Lori Tiefenthaler, Kimberly Kayler, Kristen Braden, Esther Arteta, Diana Maria Espinosa Bula, Teresa Cendrowska, Julie Garbini, Amparo Bocanegra, Mónica Manolas, Anne Ellis; Anne Ellis, ACI Past President, and ACI Board of Direction member Kimberly Kayler presented at the Women in Concrete Forum, held in conjunction with the 10th annual International Concrete Sustainability Conference on May 11, 2015, in Miami, FL, USA. The Women in Concrete Forum, sponsored by the Women in Concrete Alliance, National Ready Mixed Concrete Association, and Iberoamerican Federation of Ready Mixed Concrete, featured speakers on the role of women in the concrete industry and how gender diversity is helping to meet the challenge of concrete industry sustainability. Ellis and Kayler spoke on the increasing percentage of women in the concrete industry, encouraged opportunities for women in leadership, growing talent throughout the industry, fostering organizations that embrace diversity, and challenged the concrete industry to mentor and sponsor women. Anne Ellis and Kimberly Kayler, center, along with Vanessa Pino, Dr. Diana Arboleda, Zahra Karim, Mahsa Kamali, Jessica Flores, and Kristina Carlson from the University of Miami Kimberly Kayler, is co-founder of the Women in Concrete Alliance, and president of Constructive Communication, Inc. Ellis is vice president at AECOM. Both serve on a number of ACI committees. The presentations complement ACI’s strategic plan to provide leadership to ensure customers are equipped to sustainably address the needs of a changing world.
