You’ve probably heard about ACI’s free student membership, but as a student or young professional entering the concrete industry, wouldn’t it be great if you could access the knowledge of experts who have worked in the industry for years, as well as professionals recently out of school? Now you can. In a special session titled “Entering the Industry: What I Wish I Knew, at The Concrete Convention and Exposition, Denver, CO, USA, November 8-12, 2015, industry professionals will share their knowledge on issues relating to the transition from academia to industry, and how to get involved in ACI and its valuable resources. Panel members from the design, contractor, and repair industries will take questions and provide solutions for attendees. In addition, this special session will focus on how to convince your employer to send you to ACI conventions – we even have a letter you can download and give to your employer! This session is just one of over 50 sessions that will be held at the Constructability themed ACI Convention. Full session schedule. We have other events designed to help you succeed! Faculty Network Reception Faculty members and students are invited to attend this reception, as an opportunity to exchange ideas and network with peers. Appetizers and a cash bar will be available. Student and Young Professional Networking Event The ACI Student and Young Professional Activities Committee and ACI Collegiate Concrete Council invite all convention attendees to the Student and Young Professional Networking Event. Meet fellow students and young professionals while networking with ACI members in a fun and casual environment. Attendees to the event will be entered into a drawing for door prizes. In addition, attendees will be able to purchase food and beverages. Convention Orientation First-time convention attendees are invited to join Larry Taber, Chair of the ACI Convention Committee, for a continental breakfast and brief session to orient you to the week ahead. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet other first-time convention attendees, connect with convention mentors, and learn about what the ACI Convention has to offer. ACI Pervious Concrete Student Competition Teams are challenged to apply sustainability concepts and to use their knowledge of concrete mixture design by producing pervious concrete which balances permeability and splitting tensile strength. Teams are additionally challenged to develop a mixture design which develops the highest load-cost ratio. A report that documents the team's cylinder production process and preliminary results is also scored. To qualify for cost analysis, a team's specimens must meet a minimum threshold permeability, as is true with placements in the construction industry. Enhance your professional development, and join us at The Concrete Convention and Exposition in Denver!
