Shane M. Maxemow is the winner of the 2015 American Concrete Institute Young Professional Essay Contest. His essay, titled “Listen, Learn, and Pass it On” focuses on how young professionals can be a key factor in the concrete industry’s goal of collaboration and sharing of knowledge. The winning essay appeared in the July issue of Concrete International magazine. Maxemow states that, “Concrete is a complex subject spanning multiple disciplines and numerous topics. With a culture built on collaboration and the transmission of knowledge, the concrete industry has the ability to reshape the world into an amazing place.” The ACI Young Professional Essay Contest is sponsored by ACI Committee S-806, Young Professional Activities Committee, and is open to those who have been in a concrete or construction related industry for less than eight years. Winners receive $400 and a free registration to The Concrete Convention and Exposition. The Fall ACI Convention will take place in Denver, CO, USA, November 8-12, 2015. Maxemow, a structural engineer at Silman, Washington DC, received his BS and MS in civil engineering from the University of South Florida, Tampa, FL, USA. Read the winning essay.
