ACI Honorary Membership presented to W. Calvin McCall at the ACI Convention, Milwaukee, WI, USA, Spring, 2016. ACI has created a new way to honor its Honorary Members, in keeping with the prestigious nature of the award. In addition to recognition at the ACI Spring Convention each year, and inclusion in Concrete International magazine, Honorary Members now have a dedicated display at ACI Headquarters. This new arrangement is part of building-wide enhancements in line with ACI’s branding efforts. The tradition of Honorary Membership dates back to 1926, when Richard L. Humphrey became ACI’s first Honorary Member. According to ACI’s Bylaws, “An Honorary Member shall be a person of eminence in the field of the Institute's interest or one who has performed extraordinary meritorious service to the Institute.” Humphrey was also ACI’s president from 1905-1914, when it was known as the National Association of Cement Users. Since 1926, there have been a total of 217 Honorary Members, many of whom were also ACI Presidents. Most recently, ACI conferred Honorary Membership upon John A. Bickley, David Darwin, Vitervo Asdrúbal O’Reilly Diaz, W. Calvin McCall, and Cloyd E. (Joseph) Warnes. View the full list of Honorary Members. “We extend deepest gratitude to all of ACI’s Honorary Members for their extraordinary contributions,” stated Ron Burg, Executive Vice President, American Concrete Institute. “Their dedication, leadership, and service to the Institute provide the backbone for continuous advancement within ACI and throughout the greater concrete community.” Learn more about ACI’s Honors and Awards.
