The 8th Annual Future Concrete Conference took place on August 25, 2016 at the Hilton Beirut Habtoor Grand Hotel, Lebanon. The event was organized by ACI Lebanon Chapter (Lebanese Concrete Society) and Advanced Construction and Technology Services (ACTS). ACI Vice President and ACTS Chairman and Founder Khaled Awad gave the welcome speech preceding a keynote address from Jamal Itani, Mayor of Beirut, and Khaled Chehab, President of the Order of Engineers and Architects – Beirut. The one-day program focused on a variety of important topics impacting the region including economic outlook, sustainability, project management and challenges facing concrete construction industry. A major highlight of the event was the announcement of the winners of the 2016 ACI Fiber-Reinforced Concrete (FRC) Bowling Ball Student Competition, which was brought to Lebanon. This year’s challenge drew 25 teams from 10 universities competing to demonstrate the effect of fibers in reinforcing concrete.
