Students from around the globe traveled to The Concrete Convention and Exposition in Anaheim, CA, USA, to participate in two student competitions. The new ACI ECO Concrete Competition promotes the idea of environmental performance in concrete mixture design as an important aspect of sustainability. Teams had to develop an innovative concrete mixture, which had the lowest possible environmental impact while maintaining optimal mechanical and durability performances. Students in the ACI Egg Protection Device Competition had to design and build the highest-impact-load resistant plain or reinforced concrete Egg Protection Device, enabling them to learn about concrete’s sustainable benefits related to durability, impact resistance, and other real-life aspects which an EPD simulates. ACI recently announced the availability of $50,000 USD for student teams from international universities to participate in the Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Bowling Ball Competition during the ACI Concrete Convention & Exposition in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, on March 25-29, 2018. By providing this assistance ACI hopes to expand the global footprint of students active in ACI competitions, and engage even more students through ACI’s free student membership program.
