First published in 1908, the American Concrete Institute’s “Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete,” commonly known around the world today as ACI 318, has been published every three years for the past several decades. Which may leave you wondering, “If ACI 318 was last published in 2014, when will the next version be published?”
Due to changes in the International Code Council’s schedule for reviewing and publishing the International Building Code, a new version of ACI 318 is on track to be published in Summer 2019. When this happens, it is expected that ACI 318-19 will be included as a referenced standard in the 2021 edition of the International Building Code.
The 130+ members who serve on ACI’s Committee 318, Structural Concrete Building Code, and its fifteen subcommittees, are currently at work updating and finalizing the draft code requirements. It is expected that a complete draft of ACI 318-19 will be made available for public review by early 2019, prior to its official publication in Summer 2019. Additional information on ACI 318-19 will be made available on www.concrete.org as details are finalized.
