The American Concrete Institute’s Annual Chapter Leadership Training Program was held May 22 – 21, 2018. Numerous chapters from around the globe were in attendance representing 18 domestic and 6 international local chapters. Attendees had the opportunity to learn from their peers as they walked through practical concepts and resources to improve chapter management. Bill Rushing, ACI Past President, and Chair, ACI Chapter Activities Committee, kicked off day one of the training with an overview of chapter activities. Jon Hockman, of McKinley Advisors, presented two topics that provided insight on chapter relevance and declaring the business of the chapter. Kimberly Kayler, President of Advancing Organizational Excellence(AOE), covered member communications, and to assist with meeting planning, Michael Morrison, ACI Manager, Certification Program Development, shared considerations for a successful meeting. Training on Day two provided attendees with a chapter management option from StarChapter, LLC. Katie Ketter, Account Executive, of StarChapter, LLC, along with Andra Huhulea, National Account Executive, of StarChapter, LLC, introduced a management system during her presentation titled Chapter Management Made Easy. Is that Legal? presented by Samuel Erkonen, P.C., provided more practical concepts to assist chapters with bylaws and board operations. Breakout session topics included: ACI Certification, led by John Nehasil, Managing Director of Certification and Michael Morrison, Manager of Certification Program Development; Updating & Using Your ACI Page led by Tosha Holden, Chapter Activities Coordinator; Student Activities and Scholarships led by Kanette Worlds, Student, Faculty & Young Professional Activities Coordinator; ACI Foundation, led by Ann Daugherty, Executive Director, and Ashley Mayra, Assistant Director, ACI Foundation. Understanding & Updating Bylaws, led by Samuel Erkonen, P.C. The American Concrete Institute has Chapters and Student Chapters located throughout the world. Participation in a local chapter can be extremely rewarding in terms of gaining greater technical knowledge and networking with leaders in the concrete community. As part of its strategic plan, ACI strives to add value for its members, chapter members, and customers. The Fall Chapter Roundtable will be held on October 13, 2018, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, during the ACI Concrete Convention and Exposition.
