The Concrete Convention and Exposition in Las Vegas, NV, USA, recently hosted speakers from ACI Chapters and concrete associations from around the world. ACI Vice President Randall W. Poston welcomed global attendees to the ACI Convention and Las Vegas. The forum hosted ACI international partners, ACI chapter representatives, and ACI leadership, who gathered to discuss worldwide events, activities, initiatives, and common themes of interest to the concrete materials, design, and construction industry. The popular forum provides a great opportunity to share information on activities and plans, and attendees have an opportunity to learn about other international organizations. ACI works with its International Partners to collaboratively develop and disseminate technical information on concrete and concrete structures. Located in Puebla, Mexico, and designed by Pritzker Prize winner Japanese architect Toyo Ito, this new museum—a white concrete sculptural work of art—was erected with a one-of-a-kind prefabricated sandwich wall. The exterior concrete façade walls became the structural solution to achieve 82 ft clear span exhibition halls. 702 panels ranging between 12 and 28 tons were erected by 12 cranes working simultaneously to give shape to this masterpiece. The bubble deck slabs and the perimeter walls were outfitted with embedded electrical and HVAC hardware. This 236,000 ft2 building was built in 27 weeks without budget overruns and ahead of schedule.
