Convention attendees from around the world gathered for ACI’s International Forum on Sunday, October 20, 2019, at The Concrete Convention and Exposition in Cincinnati, OH, USA. ACI Vice President Jeffrey W. Coleman welcomed attendees. Attendees heard from ACI International Partners, ACI Chapter representatives, and ACI leadership about worldwide events, activities, initiatives, and common themes of interest to the concrete materials, design, and construction industry. The popular forum provides a great opportunity for attendees to share information on their organization’s activities and plans, and network with other concrete industry professionals. Attendees have an opportunity to learn about other international organizations – and how ACI is working with its International Partners in a common pursuit of advancing concrete knowledge. Khalifa Bin Hadda Jordan Concrete Association (JCA) – Dr. Mohamad Abd-Alqader RILEM – Dr. Alejandro Duran-Herrera ACI Paris Chapter – Dr. François Toutlemonde India Chapter of ACI – Mr. Sourabh Manjrekar ACI Qatar Chapter – Eng. Amir Salih Mia ACI Ecuador Chapter – Mr. Guillermo Loayza ACI Lebanon Chapter/ACTS – Mr. Ziad Awad The Forum was followed by a lunch presentation by special guest speaker Maria José Garcia, Executive Director, FICEM, titled " Sustainability in the Latin American Cement Industry: How to Transform Challenges into Opportunities.” Latin America is immersed in the dilemma between the need for development and the growing responsibility of environment protection and natural resource conservation. In this presentation, García provided an overview of the challenges being faced in Latin America and the Caribbean. In particular, how the cement and concrete industry contributes in a sustainable way to the problems faced by the region, highlighting commitment with climate change challenges, high product resilience, and its capacity for the development of sustainable infrastructures.
