The meeting was part of a larger collaborative effort that began on Monday, November 4, with a three-day ACI Certification “train-the-trainer” session led by Michael Morrison, ACI Manager of Certification Program Development. Ten members representing the ACI Singapore and the Philippines Chapters took part in these sessions hosted by the Singapore Chapter at AdMaterials Technologies laboratories. Two programs were presented and executed; ACI’s Aggregate Testing Technician – Level I and ACI’s Concrete Strength Testing Technician. Both chapters are now qualified to offer these programs in their respective countries. On Friday, November 8, chapter officers and ACI Staff joined the local civil engineering community for the 2019 ACI-ASConference organized by ACI Singapore Chapter at Temasek Polytechnic University. In addition, ACI Chapter representatives from India, the Philippines, and Malaysia were invited to the stage to sign an MOU acknowledging cooperation between the Asian countries for future programs and events. Students from several local universities and members of the concrete industry also participated in the Chapter’s annual poster competition. The chapter awarded twelve cash prizes to the individual/team winners of the student and open category. Kanette Worlds, ACI Student, Faculty, and Young Professional Activities Coordinator presented the first-place winners of the student category with a gift bag containing ACI merchandise. During the conference, ACI Singapore also announced plans to sponsor a new student chapter at Temasek Polytechnic University. Temasek will become the first official student chapter in the country. Nineteen chapter officers attended the ACI Chapter Roundtable. Hot topics for the roundtable included an explanation of the Local Member Category that provides complimentary limited ACI benefits to chapter members; chapter submissions to the ACI Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards; and the promotion of student and young professional activities.
