Southern Illinois University Edwardsville team during registration ACI Illinois Chapter hosted a Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Bowling Ball Competition at their certification training center in Elmhurst, IL, on February 8, 2020. “It’s a great opportunity for the local teams to understand the benefits of using fibers in concrete and it also serves as a place to ask questions and gain contacts within the local industry,” says Andres Matos, a board member at the ACI Illinois Chapter, and Junior Engineer with Flood Testing Lab, Inc. “This activity provides feedback on their work and is meant to give them an opportunity to test out their initial designs while providing opportunity for improvements prior to the international competition.” Most of the student teams will be competing in the ACI FRC Bowling Ball Competition on March 29, 2020, during the ACI Concrete Convention in Rosemont/Chicago, IL, USA. This year, the returning champion, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, competed under the university team category.
