Following cancellation of the ACI Concrete Convention this past March due to COVID-19, the American Concrete Institute successfully transformed their popular concrete technical sessions into the ACI Concrete Convention’s Virtual Technical Presentations – an accessible, online experience from ACI University. Beginning on June 1 and concluding on June 3, 2020, the ACI Concrete Convention’s Virtual Technical Presentations were delivered to over 800 attendees seeking to expand their concrete knowledge and understanding. Over the three-day period, ACI hosted nine virtual presentations for a combined total of 20 hours of specialized presentations regarding concrete materials, design, construction, and repair. The virtual technical presentations reached a global audience that comprised of individuals from 57 countries. “It’s inspiring to see our global community come together like this,” stated Ronald G. Burg, PE, Executive Vice President, American Concrete Institute. “While it’s unfortunate we could not meet face-to-face, it is clear that the ACI Concrete Convention continues to be the world’s gathering place for advancing concrete.” On June 3, 2020, over 130 attendees of the ACI Concrete Virtual Technical Presentations joined the Institute for their first-ever ACI Virtual Concrete Mixer. The mixer was hosted by ACI President Jeffrey W. Coleman, ACI Executive Vice President Ronald G. Burg, and ACI Foundation Executive Director Ann M. Masek. Attendees had the chance to socialize and share what they learned from the virtual technical presentations in a fun, casual online format.
