ACI Eastern Pennsylvania & Delaware Chapter (EPDACI) announced the winners of their Annual Student Beam Competition held virtually on April 10, 2021. The objective of the competition was to design and construct a reinforced concrete beam with a cross section contained within a 6 ½” wide x 3” deep envelope and weighing not more than 50 pounds to span 3’-0”. The beam was subjected to a concentrated load at mid span and tested to failure. Six teams representing Rowan University, Widener University and University of Delaware participated in the event. Two teams received a cash prize of $1,500 USD in two categories: Ultimate Load/Weight Ratio: Concrete Bros I, Delaware University Team Members: Logan Muller, Luis Lara and Justin Adams Faculty Advisor: Dr. Jovan Tatar Most Accurate Prediction: SABT, Widener University Team Members: Natalie Worth, Huy Nguyen, Ian Kauffman, Andrea Closurdo and Julia Boyle Faculty Advisor: Dr. M. Jlilati In addition to the student competition, EPDACI Chapter is proud to offer an undergraduate student scholarship for students in the chapter area, Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware. The student must be enrolled in a program with emphasis on structural and civil design, materials, design construction and/or construction chemicals. One scholarship package is offered each year and is valued at $5,000. These scholarships are administered entirely by the EPDACI Chapter and is not affiliated with the ACI Foundation.
