The Jordan Concrete Association hosted a virtual meeting on Saturday, June 19, 2021, to mark the formation of the JCA Academic Committee. The mission of the committee is to plan, develop, and implement all means of activities and meetings to enrich students’ knowledge in concrete and to advance their leadership skills. The meeting was coordinated by Ahmad Mhanna, ACI Middle East Regional Director. Nizar Qaqish, JCA President, and Cary Kopczynski, ACI President, delivered the welcome message. The JCA Academic Committee introduction was given by Dr. Faris Matalkah, Assistant Professor and ACI Student Chapter Faculty Advisor at Yarmouk University. Additional invited guests included, Hamzeh Awwad, CEO at Arabtech Jardaneh, and Yousef Tarawneh, Executive Director at Issa Jarad Tarawneh Company. Following the industry talks, Kanette Worlds, ACI Student, Faculty, and Young Professional Activities Coordinator, shared opportunities for students to get engaged in competitions, conventions, and publications. In addition, Siham Al Shanti, 2019-2020 ACI Middle East Fellowship Recipient, talked about the positive impact that the fellowship program had on her academic and industry career. There are currently four universities in Jordan with an ACI Student Chapter on campus including: The Hashemite University Mutah University University of Jordan Yarmouk University Students interested in applying for the ACI Middle East Fellowship may submit their applications between July 1 – November 1, 2021.
