The American Concrete Institute (ACI) shares its sadness at the loss of life following the collapse of the Champlain Towers South in Surfside, Florida, USA, on June 24, 2021. Until the investigation is complete, it is premature and inappropriate to speculate on the cause(s) of the collapse. ACI is monitoring developments to understand the cause(s) and learn from the investigation. The American Concrete Institute is a leading global authority for the development, dissemination, and adoption of its consensus-based standards, technical resources, and educational, training, & certification programs. The Institute’s design codes – including Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete (ACI 318), Code Requirements for Assessment, Repair, and Rehabilitation of Existing Concrete Structures (ACI 562), and others – contain consensus-based requirements that are developed by experts and adopted at the regional, state, and national levels.
