The concrete community once again reunited at the world’s gathering place for advancing concrete in April at the ACI Concrete Convention. The convention was held in San Francisco, California, USA, and was attended by over 2000 students, concrete professionals, and industry leaders.
Experts and educators throughout the concrete industry convened from April 2nd to 5th to collaborate on improving the design, construction, maintenance, and repair of concrete projects. The convention provided a forum for networking, education, and an opportunity to provide input on the concrete industry’s codes, specifications, and guides.
Over 50 technical and educational sessions, featuring more than 220 speakers and 100+ hours of industry-leading concrete learning were available to attendees of the spring ACI Concrete Convention.
ACI Executive Vice President Ronald G. Burg addresses guests at his retirement celebration.
“The Spring ACI convention in San Francisco was a resounding success,” said Ronald G. Burg, PE, Executive Vice President, American Concrete Institute. “Our committees and board accomplished much throughout hundreds of hours of tireless meetings and discussion.”
ACI hosted the Retirement Celebration for Ronald G. Burg, who held the position of Executive Vice President for 13 years. During this evening reception, attendees celebrated Burg’s dedication, service, and retirement from ACI through stories, laughter, and a speech from Ron himself. He became ACI Executive Vice President in 2010, the seventh person to hold that position in ACI history. As ACI Executive Vice President, Burg also served as the President of the ACI Foundation and its three councils, as well as President of Advancing Organizational Excellence (AOE), ACI’s for-profit subsidiary. An ACI member since 1984, Burg is a Fellow of ACI.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank all that planned and attended my retirement reception. It was truly a special evening for my family and me,” said Burg.

Charles K. Nmai hands the gavel off to incoming ACI President Antonio Nanni at the Spring 2023 ACI Convention.
During the Opening Session and Keynote Presentation, ACI President Charles K. Nmai presented the presidential gavel to incoming ACI President Antonio Nanni. Nmai also presented the newly elected ACI Fellows and Honorary Members.

The winners for the Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Bowling Ball Competition were announced during the Student Awards Program on April 3, 2023. Six teams received recognition in two prize categories. Winners received cash prizes in the amount of $750, $500, and $250 respectively.
