The industry once again reunited at the world’s gathering place for advancing concrete – the ACI Concrete Convention. From March 30 to April 2, 2025, over 2,500 professionals and students from around the world gathered in Toronto, Canada for the Spring 2025 ACI Concrete Convention. Known as the premier event for concrete innovation and collaboration, the convention continues to attract researchers, practitioners, and industry leaders dedicated to improving the design, construction, maintenance, and repair of concrete. Throughout the four-day event, attendees participated in over 100 hours of educational sessions, committee meetings, networking receptions, and student competitions — all centered around advancing knowledge and best practices in concrete. A highlight of the convention was Building Code Day, which focused on the newly released ACI CODE-318-25 and ACI CODE-562-25. Experts and authors of the code led technical sessions and discussions, unveiling key updates and their implications for the industry. Other notable sessions included the ACI Foundation’s Innovation Session, which showcased groundbreaking research and technologies poised to shape the future of concrete, and the International Forum & Lunch, where global members shared updates and best practices from their regions. During the Opening Session and Keynote Presentation, ACI President Michael J. Paul officially passed the presidential gavel to incoming ACI President Maria Juenger. The session also marked a major milestone for the Institute with the unveiling of ACI’s new Strategic Plan, outlining the organization's forward-looking goals and initiatives for the coming years. In addition to these significant announcements, the Institute proudly recognized the outstanding achievements of its members. ACI honored its newest Honorary Members, welcomed the 2025 Class of Fellows, celebrated dedicated 50-year members, and recognized numerous individuals and organizations with its prestigious annual awards. A variety of ACI’s annual awards were also proudly presented to industry professionals throughout the week, recognizing exceptional contributions in research, education, leadership, and service to the concrete industry. A full list of ACI’s 2025 Awardees can be found here. The Women in ACI Reception once again served as a platform to honor the contributions and leadership of women in the concrete industry, drawing a record number of attendees. The Fiber-Reinforced Concrete (FRC) Bowling Ball Student Competition was held during the convention, drawing student teams from around the world to showcase their engineering creativity and understanding of fiber reinforcement in concrete. Teams designed and fabricated concrete bowling balls using a custom fiber-reinforced mix and were judged on design predictions, physical testing, and aesthetics. The Presiding Judges for the competition were members of ACI and members from Committee S801 – Student Activities, Subcommittee 544-B – Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Education, and Subcommittee 239-E – Ultra-High Performance Concrete Educational Outreach. This year’s competition also introduced a new Aesthetics Evaluation category, encouraging innovation not only in performance but also in visual appeal. Prizes were awarded to top teams in both performance and aesthetics categories. The full list of competition winners can be viewed here. Networking remained a cornerstone of the event, with memorable receptions including the President’s Reception, Concrete Mixer, and the Student and Young Professional Networking Event. These gatherings provided valuable opportunities for attendees at all stages of their careers to connect, collaborate, and celebrate their shared passion for concrete. The ACI Concrete Convention continues its legacy as the world’s gathering place for advancing concrete. Mark your calendars for the next ACI Concrete Convention, scheduled for October 26–29, 2025, in Baltimore, Maryland, USA! View the full convention photo gallery here.
