Abstract:
The use of 4 x 8-in. compressive strength specimens in place of 6 x 12-in. specimens offers many advantages to testing laboratories. However, because ASTM C39 currently lacks a precision statement for 4 x 8-in. specimens, engineers may be reluctant to permit their use. A testing program involving multiple testing laboratories and a proposed precision statement for 4 x 8-in. cylinders are presented in this article.
