Abstract:
Aggregate constituents such as mica, coatings, and water soluble impurities may adversely affect concrete properties. Standard specifications and guides on aggregates do not always recognize or address these constituents as their occurrence is often localized in geologic deposits. Micas, coatings, and water-soluble impurities are primarily present as minor constituents of concrete aggregates and, depending on composition, physical properties, and abundance may be harmful.
