Abstract:
A method is presented for the analysis of the distribution of lateral loads amongst the shear walls of a three-dimensional multi-storey [sic] building subjected to both bending and torsion.

Design formulas are presented for the direct evaluation of the axial forces in the connecting beams and the shear forces in the walls of a coupled shear wall system.

Shear-wall building structures are often symetric in plan and subjected to loads the result of which coincide with the structure's symmetry plane. To enable a simple, reasonably accurate analysis of these types of structures to be made in engineering offices, the author's continuous connection method for the analysis of simple perforated shear walls is extended to cover complete building structures.

Many shear walls are supported on beams which span onto columns. The redistribution of loading at the base of such a wall causes axial tension, shear and bending moments in the support beam. This paper develops equations whereby these force actions can be readily estimated.

Large regular frames under initial axial forces may be approximated by a continuum which is identical with Eringen's micropolar continuum. The finite difference method is then applied to the continuum problem.
