Abstract:
Conventional shear reinforcement can be used to increase the strength and ductility of concrete flat plates. However, to be effective the shear reinforcement must be well anchored in the compression and tension zones of the slab. In thin slabs the required anchorage cannot be easily achieved with the result that the use of shear reinforcement is generally avoided if at all possible. The results of tests on slab-column connection models provided special shear reinforcement are presented this paper. Such shear reinforcement can reduce the practical difficulties associated suggested shear reinforcement consists of ual vertical bars provided with mechanical age at each end. The test results show that properly placed, the shear reinforcement can prevent the occurrence of punching failures, thus forcing the failure to be of the ductile flexural type Pical for under-reinforced members. A simple method for the design of the shear reinforcement is presented. The research is limited to interior slab-column connections.
