Abstract:
Concrete floors are thought by many - including owners, architects, engineers, developers, construction managers, and in fact most people - to be good, or certainly acceptable, only if they don't have any cracks. And unfortunately it is almost automatically assumed that if there are any cracks, the contractor is the guilty party. This misconception persists, despite the fact that the ACI Committee 224 Report "Causes, Evaluation and Repair of Cracks in Concrete Structures" specifically lists a great number of causes of cracking that the concrete contractor is not involved in at all, and for which he has no responsibility whatsoever.
