Abstract:
The Getty Villa in Pacific Palisades, CA, recently reopened after an extensive 5-year renovation. A unique concrete “strata wall” resembling the sides of an excavation formed the basis for the design of a series of outdoor plazas and indoor spaces. The challenging task presented by the number of different concrete mixtures, surface textures, and decorative aggregates contained in the wall and surrounding decorative concrete slabs are discussed in this article.
