Abstract:
Ten bamboo-reinforced concrete simply supported beams were tested to failure under third-point loading, and six other beams were subjected to long-term loading. Collapse of the 10 beams occurred mostly through diagonal tension failure of the concrete in the shear span; the experimental failure loads averaged 2.4 times the theoretical shear strength of the concrete section alone but only 0.9 times the theoretical shear strength when the effects of both the concrete section and the tension reinforcement were considered. A method based on the analysis of the results is proposed for the design of such beams.
