Abstract:
FRP products come in two categories: fabrics and pre-cured laminates. Fabrics offer the widest versatility in the field and are installed using the wet layup method. Pre-cured laminates are available as composite rods or narrow unidirectional strips from 3 to 10 in. (75 to 250 mm) wide and 0.05 in. (1.3 mm) thick. Laminate strips are bonded to the exterior surface of the structural element using epoxy putty. Super laminates are a new, third category of FRP product available as a 60 in. (1524 mm) wide, pre-cured composites with unidirectional or biaxial fabric reinforcement. Applications for super laminates include strengthening of pipes, production of seamless shells around existing columns or underwater piles, and strengthening of tanks and silos.
