Abstract:
Q. We have been awarded a contract to place concrete for elevated slabs on metal deck. The contract documents specify a unit weight (density) of 110 ± 3 lb/ft3 (1760 ± 50 kg/m3) for the concrete. The documents also require a hard-troweled finish. Our concrete producer has informed us that they can’t meet the specified unit weight unless air entrainment is used. To minimize the potential for blisters and delamination, we don’t want to use air entrainment. What can we do?
