Abstract:
The use of nonlinear analysis procedures in the analysis of reinforced concrete buildings subjected to seismic retrofitting is commonly used for design. To approximately capture the nonlinear response of structural elements, backbone (envelope)
curves are used. Procedures to construct backbone curves for existing components of frames (beams, joints, and columns) have been extensively researched over the years. In contrast, recommendations to construct backbone curves for retrofitted components are largely lacking. The research in this project was intended to assist in filling this gap in knowledge.
