Abstract:
This study presents a rational method to compute stress resultants in reinforced-concrete silo groups with four cylindrical cells of the same diameter subject to interstice loading, using, in the longitudinal direction, a Timoshenko beam on elastic foundation model, and in the transverse direction, a clamped arch model. The proposed method was verified through an extensive parametric study using three-dimensional finite element analysis and a nonlinear least squares technique. The prediction of continuity bending moments is quite accurate and hoop forces are adequately estimated for design purposes.
