Abstract:
A new model for bond action between untracked concrete and a deformed bar is presented. Concrete resistance is provided by a mechanical system which consists of inclined compressive elements, discs normal to the bar axis, and longitudinal tensile members. The kinematics of the system is analyzed, yielding a second order differential equation with the bar tensile force as variable. Stress and strain distributions in the steel bar are solved and results are compared with test data. Good correspondence between measured and calculated strain distributions along a steel bar are found at stresses below 160 MPa (23 ksi).
