Abstract:
A mathematical model was applied to tests on simply supported pretensioned and post-tensioned beams and on continuous beams to evaluate crack widths in partially prestressed beams at working load and overload. Variation in percentage of steel reinforcement of prestressed tendons and nonprestressed reinforcement were major controlling parameters. Equations are proposed to relate the maximum weighted crack width to increase in reinforcement stress and concrete area in tension.
