Abstract:
A test developed for ambient temperatures is described which may be used to measure the tensile and compressive strengths of concrete at temperatures of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and lower. Tests were performed on specimens of different geometries, ages, and moisture contents. Results have been analyzed and compared with those from two available empirical expressions. The double-punch test is pro-hosed as a simple and reliable test to determine the tensile strength of concrete at very low temperatures.
