Abstract:
A comparison is made between measured and calculated long-term deflections of lightweight concrete beams under service and test loads. Construction loads were measured with load cells. The measured deflections were greater than those obtained by calculation. The long-term deflections of the beams were influenced by their early loading history, the construction practices used, and the environmental conditions that occurred during this period, factors that are not normally taken into consideration in the commonly used methods of calculating the deflections of flexural members.
