Abstract:
A number of field variables are involved in producing a finished concrete floor surface. The performance of test slabs was measured by wear resistance. Variables were the type of finish, finishing practice, slump, type of curing, and three common surface treatments. Different types of float and trowel finishes were tested. Test slabs were also made to reproduce troublesome surfaces such as scaling, dusting, and crazing. The type of finish and curing practices had considerable effect on wear resistance. Improved wear resistance was offered by the hardsteel troweling of the finish. Application of curing compound immediately after finishing gave the best performance with reference to wear resistance.
