Abstract:
Describes two methods for saturating lightweight aggregates for use in mixes suitable for pumping. In the hydrothermal method, aggregate at high temperature is immersed in water. In the vacuum saturated method, dry aggregate is evacuated then water introduced to fill the internal voids. Data are presented showing the amount of water absorbed in tests of both methods. Results are also given comparing concretes made with vacuum saturated aggregate and with dry aggregate.
