Abstract:
Tabular data are given for the maximum bending moments due to vertical loads and temperature variations in shells of revolution of a large variety of shapes. When shells are elastically built-in into cylinders of the same radius it is shown that ehw maximum values of the bending moments in the shell and in the cylinder are functions of the ratio of thickness of shell to thickness of cylinder, and can be taken directly from the tabular data without computations.
