Abstract:
Field tests 10 years after rehabilitation show that concrete bridge decks that were repaired with bonded concrete overlays (without any isolation, etc.) may perform satisfactorily in a harsh environment provided that removal, surface cleaning, placing, compacting, and curing were all carried out carefully and correctly. In this article, factors influencing cracking, freeze-thaw resistance, and chloride ingress of bonded overlays are discussed. Crack mappings are shown and tests on freeze-thaw resistance and chloride ingress in cracked and uncracked parts are presented.
