Abstract:
Results of an experimental analysis of a small aluminum model of a skewed-slab ridge-frame bridge are presented. A model theory is also checked using reinforced concrete as the model material by testing three sizes of geometrically similar simple beams and a model of a skewed slab with curbs. The slab is a 1/8-scale model similar to a 1/2-scale model testes previously at the University of Illinois. Results indicated that small reinforced concrete models do behave just as their prototypes up to the ultimate load, and it now seems possible to test models of entire structures rather than just their componet parts as has been the practice in the past.
