Abstract:
In constructing a 28-ft span prestressed concrete bridge, the Massachusetts Department of Public Works was able to evaluate the use of prestressing as well as gain experience for future construction. Design and job problems are considered. Tests on full scale presressed beams bore out the design criteria except that the loss in prestressing indicated that an allowance of 15 percent is insufficient.
